A woman's Place, Galerie Heike Strelow, Frankfurt, 2017
The title of the exhibition "a woman's place" refers to the slogan “a women’s place in the revolution” that is regularly used as a statement during women's rights manifestations. During the working and travel periods in other countries and continents the Katrin Ströbel has experienced diverse images, roles and places of women in society. As a result this exhibition explore topics such as the relationship between the female body and public space, the position of women artists in the art world, the female body in colonial history.
“A woman’s place” brings together recent paper works, collages and installations. By using both criticism and irony her works question the status of the artist herself, working as a white privileged women in non-European countries by linking colonial and historical narratives with actual political debates such as women's rights or immigration politics.
